  • I thought it was more important to make great trades and not to avoid bad ones?
Yes, but that comes eventually. New traders’ learning path is all too predictable. They make a few good small trades and some VERY big bad trades. In fact, these 3 or 4 bad trades wipe out the money which was made from tens of small trades. So the starting point of becoming a good trader is avoiding those bad trades.
  • Small losses
The loss at your stop loss point must be small — which will not hurt you. Something like 2–5% of your capital depending on what you can afford to lose. It is easy to correct your mistakes when they are small. It is easy to get out of small losses. It is emotionally tough to book large losses. So if the loss is large, there is a chance that you might hang on to it.
  • StopLoss Order
Once you enter a stoploss (SL) order in the system, do not change it when the market goes against you. That stuff never goes well.
  • What is a trade?
A trade is not an up/ down decision. It is an execution plan with many parts. You need this plan before you trade. And you must stick to the plan. Let us go through the parts of a trade.
  • “How much money should I trade with?”
Every single trader who started trading has asked someone this question. But before we get into the answer, we need to know this: I am going to say that again. The only thing you have to get right in trading is your psychology and your attitude towards money. Everything else will come to you.
  • How do you prevent overbetting?
Do not buy options, especially OTM to make money quickly. NEVER. Always have constant risk limits. Something like not more than x futures or options at a time. Have these written down. Increase them rarely — Once in a quarter or something. Stick to this number, no matter what. Get a trade buddy. Ask his help to keep you disciplined.
